AIR Development

Adobe AIR (AIR) is a cross-platform runtime environment developed by Adobe Systems for building rich Internet applications using Adobe Flash, Adobe Flex, HTML, or Ajax, that can be deployed as a desktop application. They bring all the advantages of a desktop application to a web application with none of it's disadvantages.

AIR applications need installation and they have the ability to work both online and offline. Most AIR applications store data when offline and later synchronize them with online servers whenever a connection is established.

About AIR
  • AIR applications are multi-platform. Ie, Same AIR application can run in multiple operating systems such as Linux, Windows, Mac etc. if they have the Adobe AIR runtime installed.
  • AIR applications usually feature same visually rich and engaging user interfaces as their flex based web counterparts.
  • AIR applications, unlike flex can have access to system resources as they are not confined to a browser.
  • AIR development, like flex can be done using the Flex builder or more recent Flash builder IDE.
  • AIR development may also be done using any HTML editor such as Dream Weaver or using a simple text editor.
  • AIR development requires only same skill set as Flex developers.
