Rebuilding Lives with Great Food

Overview

Political turmoil, war and  poverty force thousands of people around the globe to leave the comfort of their homes in search of a better life. There are now more refugees in the world than at any time since 1994 says the United Nations. For most of us, leaving our homeland is a choice but not for the refugees it is their only chance to survive.

The silver lining to the shrouds of despair for these refugees is the hope to build a new life in some far away land. Despite the life-threatening risks, they embark on a journey that many  do not complete. But “Why do so many risk it all in search of a new home?”I think I have found an answer:

Hello beautiful people! In this edition of Startup Shout Out we bring to you a humanitarian initiative started by Kim Lim, CEO and co-founder of The Picha Project. It is a social enterprise, rebuilding the lives of refugees in Malaysia through a sustainable food business.

Named after a 3-year-old refugee boy from Myanmar, PichaEats offers an amazing platform where refugee mothers cook delicious authentic meals and while the team markets the food and deliver it to the public. And the best part, the platform enables you, me and everyone to provide an opportunity for refugees in Malaysia to start new lives just by enjoying a good meal!

The team brings to the table scrumptious delicacies from the homeland of the chefs like Iraqi Falafel, Palestinian Hummus, Afghani Dumplings and Syrian sweets- made with secret ingredient of love.

On every purchase, 50% of the sales go to the Picha Chef, which helps them meet their ingredient costs and basic living expenses. Another 50% go to PichaEats, which is used to cover business operation cost  and reinvested to create greater impact.

A big shout out to team PichaEats for the incredible philanthropic initiative. You guys have given Social Innovation a new dimension. Keep up the good work.Kudos!!
